Bridgestone to leave at the end of the 2015 season, Michelin to take over
IT HAS been confirmed that the French tyre manufacturer Michelin will become the Official Tyre Supplier from the 2016 season of the MotoGP World Championship.
It was announced in May that Bridgestone were stepping down from the role at then end of the 2015 MotoGP season and due to this Dorna opened a tender for tyre manufacturers who were interested in taking over as the Official Tyre Supplier.
Despite there being three potential tyre suppliers who expressed an interest by requesting technical specifications, the only manufacturer to make a formal tender before the deadline was Michelin according to MotoGP officials.
A commercial agreement between Dorna and Michelin is yet to be constructed. Michelin have already clearly proven their technical abilities and competence is suited to Grand Prix racing after being involved in the World Championship since 1972 before leaving in 2008 due to the new single-tyre format.
